Hi, Dr Sahota here.

With so much convenience and fast food availablethese days, eating healthily can be a challenge.

But it doesn’t have to be.

Today, we’re going to follow our three familiesfrom Kent as they make small changes to their eating habits – all with the help of theChange4Life Be Food Smart app.

This clever little app is packed full of usefulhints and tips, kids’ activities and mini-missions for the whole family.

By downloading it onto their phones or tablets, our families have been able to discover how much sugar, saturated fat and salt is insidetheir everyday food and drink.

They simply scan the barcode on the labelto make healthier choices whenever and wherever they shop.

The app uses a simple traffic light system– helping them to cut down on less healthy foods coloured red, and opt for healthierchoices which get the green light.

Our families also explored the Change4Lifewebsite to get tips on healthy eating….

like how to make nutritious snacks andpacked lunches, and the best ways to get their recommended five daily portions of fruit andveg.

It was great to see one family enjoy tryingdifferent fruit for the first time and discovering a tasty source of vitamins, minerals and fibre.

The kids were asked what they thought it was…and then were asked to vote whether they liked it.

From checking food labels to keeping an eyeon portion sizes, you and your family can eat better and feel better.

There are lotsof small ways to make a big difference.

So download the Be Food Smart app and start eatingwell today.
